Fugro to survey East Africa
Published 06.01.2009 13:15:23 by John BradburyOffshore survey provider Fugro has landed deals to provide metocean studies offshore East Africa for two companies including StatoilHydro.
One deal secured by Fugro is to provide current measurement for one year off Tanzania in a water depth of 1,700 m (5,576 ft) for African exploration company Ophir Energy.
Fugro's second deal with StatoilHydro and partners including Dominion Tanzania Ltd, Petrobras, Petronas, and Anadarko is for a current and wave motion study for moorings in water depths between 1,300 and 3,000 m (4,264 ft-9,840 ft).
Work will be carried out by Fugro's GEOS division and will provide environmental data for planning and design for field developments

In 2007-2008, Dominion acquired 4,350 km of 2D seismic over Block 7. Initial interpretation of the data indicates the presence of substantial leads in moderate water depths. Following further interpretation, 3D seismic will be acquired over selected leads. During 2008-2009, Dominion will participate in a Metocean survey in a consortium of offshore Tanzania operators led by Statoil. This survey will provide important information for the selection of drilling sites and for well design.
